Some of the Ways Dancers Learn
Like all of us, dancers learn in a variety of ways. Some are skillful listeners and have the ability to translate their teachers' directions into beautiful movement. Other dancers need their teachers, but also find it beneficial to watch video, talk with veteran dancers, create choreography, read articles, teach young dancers, and yes, write about it. In this journal prompt on the left, dancers are asked to explore the various ways they learn. Drawing as a Way to Learn
In this journal prompt the dancer is asked to draw a favorite pose, position, or step. Drawing takes focus and creates a unique way to help dancers see themselves. For some dancers, especially those who are spatial-visual learners, drawing helps heighten learning by gathering information, remembering, thinking, and planning. And as you can probably guess, it's not about the skillfulness of a drawing, it's about the meaning and the information a picture depicts.
